Now, later on aboutthree to nine months into care, sometimes they can add in some sprouted grains or sourdoughgrains. But from the start, that first three months, going completely grainfree is important. Also staying away from casein or conventionaldairy products. Lactose, the sugar in dairy, in casein, can be problematic. Now doing kefiron the other hand, can be greatly beneficial

or a fermented dairy product, but regulardairy products, especially milk, can be absolutely destructive for IBS. Some of the other things you want to be carefulof and stay away from with IBS are pretty obvious, hydrogenated oils. Those cause intestinalinflammation. Also, raw foods. That's right. Salads, raw fruits and vegetables and rawfruits can really damage the gut if you have IBS. So you really only want to be consumingcooked foods. Also, stay away from cold foods. Ice water, ice cream, anything that's coldis actually hard on the digestive system. Then of course, any processed food, refinedfood, packaged food, get those out of the

diet if you have IBS. Now, here are the top healing foods for IBSor the IBS diet. On the IBS diet you want to consume foods that really nourish the colonas well as nourish the spleen. The first category is going to be white immune boosting foods.So again, white foods, think cauliflower, onions and garlic. Cauliflower steamed isvery easy to digest. Garlic and onions when they're well cooked are great for killingoff bad bacteria in the gut, and also have immune boosting benefits. The other group of foods is going to be foodsthat nourish the spleen and that is especially

going to be squashes. Things like butternutsquash, sweet potatoes in some instances, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, but doingsquash is very nourishing to the spleen and to the colon as well. A Low FODMAP Diet And IBS

For patients with irritable bowel syndrome,or IBS, diet can be a huge factor when it comes to controlling the symptoms. IBS isa common disorder that affects the large intestine, or the colon. IBS is a chronic condition thatcommonly causes cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea, and constipation. According to aboutibs ,about 1 out of every 10 people suffer from IBS. For some patients, a quot;low FODMAPquot; dietmay offer significant relief! FODMAPs are a type of carb, but it isn't your typicallowcarb diet. Lawrence Schiller, MD, Gastroenterologist at Baylor University MedicalCenter at Dallas gives us more detail on what FODMAP really is. FODMAP stands for FermentableOligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides

and Polyols. Those are all different kindsof chemicals that are basically carbohydrates found in foods. The reason that they are importantis because they're hard carbohydrates for us to digest and absorb and so we have tobe selective when we eat them. The idea behind this diet is to reduce the poorly absorbablecomponents of the diet and substitute instead with foods that contain carbohydrates thatare easier to digest and absorb. FODMAPS are a collection of poorly absorbed simple andcomplex sugars that are found in a variety of fruits and vegetables and also in milkand wheat. People are affected by varying degrees depending on how much of those foodsthey eat and what their digestive capabilities

are. Some people are better are digestingfoods than others. For instance, fructose, which is one of the monosaccharides whichis a problem in the FODMAP realm is fruit sugar thats present in many of the sweet fruitsthat we eat and it will cause problems. For most people, they don't encounter enough fructosein their diet to have problem from it. But if you have excessive amounts of fructosefor instance if you have a lot of processed foods that's sweetened with high fructosecorn syrup you can develop a lot of gas from thatquot;Apples happen to have a lot of fructosein them which makes them a high FODMAP food. Instead of grabbing an apple when you're hungry,grab a banana instead. The low FODMAP diet

can be tailored to meet an individual'slifestyle and preferences. Following the low FODMAP approach does not cure IBS or otherdigestive issues, but allows successful drugfree management of symptoms through diet in manypatients.
